ASSESSMENT DESCRIPTIONS

Functional Movement Screen – From the Functional Movement System website, “Put simply, the FMS is a ranking and grading system that documents movement patterns that are key to normal function. By screening these patterns, the FMS readily identifies functional limitations and asymmetries. These are issues that can reduce the effects of functional training and physical conditioning and distort body awareness.

The FMS generates the Functional Movement Screen Score, which is used to target problems and track progress. This scoring system is directly linked to the most beneficial corrective exercises to restore mechanically sound movement patterns.

Exercise professionals monitor the FMS score to track progress and to identify those exercises that will be most effective to restore proper movement and build strength in each individual.”

We will take the athlete through seven movements that will show us how the athlete’s body moves in a pain-free environment. If we find discrepancies in movement patterns we will give the athlete exercises that will help correct the movement pattern. This way we know the chance of injury during a training session is reduced.

TPI Golf Fitness Assessment – The Titleist Performance Institute golf fitness assessment is a 17-step screening that shows the fitness professional how the athlete’s body will move when swinging the club.

Do you early extend, or belly up, to the ball? Is the sway or slide in your swing. Does your back hurt after a round or a range session? Are you not hitting as far as you want?

As the website says, “TPI does not believe in one way to swing a club, rather in an infinite number of swing styles. But, we do believe there is one efficient way for every player to swing and it is based on what the player can physically do.”

This assessment will show us what you can physically do.

C.L.A.Y. Fitness Assessment – This assessment, taught to all Coalition for Launching Active Youth coaches, takes the athlete through a series of exercises that determine the athlete’s strength from unilateral and bilateral standpoints. This assessment includes 11 tests.

Fundamental Movement Skills Assessment – Through this assessment, which includes six tests, we will learn how well your upper body and lower body coordinate through dynamic movements.

Power Assessment – This assessment show us how well your body translates strength into power. We will use the body’s own weight and appropriately-weighted medicine balls to accomplish the eight tests.

Golf Speed – We will use Doppler radar to register your ball speed with four clubs: driver, fairway or hybrid, long iron and short iron.

Nutritional and Lifestyle Assessment – What’s in your refrigerator right now? How much water do you drink? On scale of 1-10 how stressful is your job? How much time per week do you devote to working on you?

Understanding a fit and healthy lifestyle goes beyond, lifting weights, eating better and sprinting. We will take a look at all the things that make up you, and give suggestions where we believe things might be improved.

Online Program – For those receiving the FMS Screen or the TPI golf fitness assessment or both, you will also receive an online program that will take you through a movement and fitness routine that is specific to your needs. If you prefer the personal training or the large group training, that is available to you also.
